Summer Camp 2006

WILL ROGERS SCOUT RESERVATION (WSWR) is the premier Boy Scout Summer Camp of the Cimarron Council located 4.5 miles west of Cleveland, Oklahoma and the destination for Troop 226 June 13th through 19th.  The cost is $210 for youth and $85 for adults with payment schedule as follows.

  • $105 youth camper due April 12th.
  • Final Payment of $105 youth camper and $85 adult camper due May 3rd.

WSWR consists of 340 hilly acres of oak and hickory forests with bluffs overlooking the Arkansas River.

The camp has been in operation since 1939, offering 30 Merit Badges, and over a dozen special awards & badges. They serve real "home cooking" and plenty of delicious "made from scratch" meals, and then serve them family style, at your dining hall table, not with your troop waiting in the chow line for half an hour.

WSWR will require each unit to provide their own tents which is a change from other camps Troop 226 has attended.

A different approach to scheduling is being implemented this year at WRSR. A more youth oriented and flexible open approach to scheduling will allow scouts, along with adult leaders, to customize the individual learning experience and take into account learning curves of each scout. There are three sessions each day: 9:00 – 10:30, 10:30 – 12:00 and 2:00 – 4:00 and scouts may move between sessions as needed. This open approach to scheduling will allow scouts to either complete merit badges or complete only those requirements that they need for completion. A number of non merit badge activities will also be included in the learning experiences.

What this means for the boys is more flexibility to attend the classes of their choosing. They will be free to come and go to any class at any time. If they only need 1 requirement to complete a merit badge they only need to stay in that class until that requirement is complete. They do not need to stay the entire session. They will not be locked in to a class if they arrive and find it to be uninteresting. They simply leave and go to another class they are interested in. There is no official advanced signup for classes. This will be explained in greater detail at the Sunday Scoutmaster's Meeting.

Parents are always welcome at camp. Visitors must check in at the Administration Building upon arrival at camp. Friday evening is Family night with a special meal and activities. Dinner is at 6:30pm and families are invited. Parents should inform the troop prior to arriving at camp as to how many family members will be visiting camp and eating Friday night.

Payment for meals during the week can be made at the Administration Building where a meal ticket will be issued. WRSR is not set up to handle collecting money at the Dining Hall except for the Friday evening meal, which can be paid as you go through the line on Friday evening.  The cost per meal is: Breakfast $4.00, Lunch $5.00, Dinner $5.00, Children 8 and under $2.00.
